Google has been on a rampage over the last few years promoting the cause of increasing internet speed. They are pushing for faster connections and faster loading pages. Faster connections are something they can have a direct effect on by helping build a stronger infrastructure, but they can only encourage people to code their websites better to make them faster…
… or can they just fix it themselves?
They can and will. Page Speed Service is being designed to allow people to point their site’s DNS entry to Google. They will fetch the content from the servers, rewrite the pages, and present them to the world from Google’s own servers with the potential of serving them 20%-60% faster. If they can’t get the people to code better, they’ll fix the coding for them.
It will launch for free to a limited test group first and will eventually be a paid service that Google offers.
Having a fast web page is so important for everyone, otherwise users lose interest. It’s especially important for those who run a business online, the ecommerce solutions out there that rely on the internet and the speed of their webpages.
It sure is a good thing google has that “do no evil” ethic. I’d hate to find out later that I gave all my means of communication, passwords for everything I do online, a list of every contact I have for personal and business reasons, a full history of all my electronic communication and surfing habits, my calendar, documents, photos, reading lists, and bookmarks, to a company that was capable of doing anything evil to my life…Fortunately I only trust this company with the majority of my activity on the Internet and rely on them to provide the browser I use to do most everything online, the search engine I use to find all the information I’m looking for, and the operating system I use on my phone. So there’s no need to worry. I should probably start letting them rewrite all of the content I provide through my websites too. After all, Google may be a corporation, and corporations are essentially pyschopathic. But Google is different.
