LG G3 smartphone will come with a beyond-1080p display

So far, we’ve only come across beyond-1080p panels in a couple of Chinese phones, like the Oppo Find 7 and the Vivo Xplay 3S. But the spec is definitely about to go mainstream, as LG has just confirmed to us that the successor to the G2 will deliver a “Quad HD” resolution, with four times as many pixels as 720p. Based on earlier leaks, it’s likely that the G3 will have a 5.5-inch display, which means we’ll be looking at a pixel density of around 530 ppi — not far off double what you’d get from a printed glossy magazine.

We’re not yet in that crazy pre-launch rumor phase with the upcoming LG G3 phone, but things may start to heat up now: we have obtained a photo from a source that has proven reliable in the past, and we are 99.99% sure that this is indeed a photo of the LG G2 successor. Given that the GPU is a Qualcomm Adreno 330, I would assume that the main processor aka SoC is the Snapdragon 801 since there’s no reason to use a Snapdragon 800 at this point in time. They are both pin-compatible and the 801 is designed to be a drop-in replacement. The most interesting information that Snapdragon 801 is giving us is the timeframe. Because Snapdragon 805 should be available for Q3/Q4 handsets, the G3 should come out before Sep/Oct. The June 2014 G3 launch rumor seems believable.
