What sucks about Android updates is that they can take months to actually reach your device, assuming they ever reach it. All you need to do is look at Android’s monthly distribution numbers to see what I mean. Even though Android Lollipop was released nine months ago, only a mere 18.1% of Android devices out there have actually upgraded to the latest version of the operating system. 

After skipping the month of July, Google is back in August with the latest distribution numbers for each version of Android. The numbers show that Android Lollipop is now on 18.1 percent of devices, making the jump from 12.4 percent when distribution numbers were last reported in June. Interestingly, KitKat is now on 39.3 percent, marking a tiny increase from 39.2 percent when numbers were last reported. Jelly Bean took a slight dive, making up 33.6 percent of installs, down from 37.4 percent in June. Rounding things out, Ice Cream Sandwich now makes up 4.1 percent of installs, Gingerbread is down from 5.6 percent to 4.6 percent, and Froyo is still hanging on for dear life with 0.3 percent. Again, keep in mind that Google skipped reporting on version numbers in July, so there’s two months worth of change to account for with these numbers.
