Video game console generations have usually lasted about 5-6 years in the past but this last generation of consoles managed to last 7-8 years before the next generation came in. However, according to the EA Studios executive vice president, this current generation will only last about 5-6 years.

The dust has yet to settle after the two titans of console gaming, the Sony PS4 as well as the Xbox One, were launched recently, and both of them have also managed to sell more than a million units each in under 24 hours. The PS4 itself was launched a good seven years after the PS3 rolled out, and for the Xbox One, it has been eight long years since the Xbox 360 actually went on sale. EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Söderlund shared, “This console cycle may have gone on a little bit longer than I would have wanted… a five, six year gap is what I expect going forward”.
