Pegatron is reportedly manufacturing half of Apple’s 4.7-inch iPhone 6’s

Digitimes is reporting that Pegatron is making half of the 4.7-inch model of the iPhone 6, at least for orders placed in 2014. Citing upstream suppliers, it’s rumored that Apple has asked Pegatron to make 25M of its initial order of 50M phones, with primary supplier Foxconn making the rest, along with all of the 5.5-inch models. Taiwan’s Commercial Times had originally suggested that Pegatron would be receiving only 15 percent of orders, while DigiTimes said back in May that it was 30 percent, the same source that now says 50 percent. If you’re thinking all this suggests they are simply plucking numbers out of the air, you may well be right.

Apple’s upstream suppliers have begun shipping components for next-generation iPhones recently and Pegatron Technology is estimated to have landed half of the orders for the 4.7-inch model, indicating that Pegatron may supply 25 million of the estimated 50 million 4.7-inch next-generation iPhones shipped before the end of 2014, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. However, makers believed to be in the new iPhone supply chain have declined to comment. Apple is said to be unveiling its next-generation iPhones on September 9 and the 4.7-inch model is scheduled to enter mass shipments in October. Previously, Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) was said to have landed all of Apple’s new 5.5-inch model orders and 70% of the 4.7-inch model’s orders. However, the latest development shows that the orders for the 4.7-inch models are split evenly between Pegatron and Foxconn, the sources said. The sources also pointed out that Pegatron’s relationship with Apple has grown tighter recently. With the strong orders from Apple, Pegatron is expected to see impressive results in the fourth quarter. Currently, Apple’s orders contribute 35-40% of the company’s revenues, the sources said.
