Playlistify is one of those unfortunately rare products that does exactly what the name suggests.
That’s right, Playlistify “playlistifies” your playlists. As creator Roeland Landegent explains in the video above, Playlistify allows you to take lists of songs from anywhere – iTunes, Winamp, Last.fm, any XML-based songlist and convert it to a playable list of songs.
The website, playlistify.org simply processes the songs, and passes the list to Spotify, so unfortunately this means that Playlistify is essentially useless in the US and Canada.
Spotify is available in Finland, Norway, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, so for now the rest us will have to stick to manually searching and downloading music.
Obviously the service includes all kinds of baked in social media and sharing capabilities so you can create and share playlists. All in all this seems like a fun, cool, easy to use service.
Eventually the music industry will wake up to find itself in the middle of the 21st century, outdated and irrelevant, and perhaps then the whole world will be able to enjoy simple, unique services like this.
Thank you for the review about Playlistify!
I don’t think it is totally useless for Canadians and US residents, as you can upload your playlist, play it online via the Youtube plugin (just click ‘Play All’ on any playlist you find or make in the Playlistify Directory at http://dir.playlistify.org) or embed the playlist as a playable widget on your site or blog!
We are working on Rhapsody integration for more relevance though 😀
bake your playlist too!
I feel that mashup solutions like this are a dime a dozen and not in the least bit exciting. It’s not really very innovative, and another major turn-off is the fact that this doesn’t work outside the countries listed. This is then, a really micro solution to an insignificant problem. Not that you shouldn’t cover it, but I just wish people would focus on bigger issues, like making media available globally (I live in India so Playlistify/Spotify are of no use to me).
dear Abhimanyu Ghoshal,
you can however hit the ‘play all’ button for every playlist, which should work fine in countries where Youtube embedding is supported, and you can hit the Embed button to add the playable widget to your site or blog, so this is also working for your country I think?
By the way, check out the global spread of the playlists on the map via !
