A report out of China claims that Qualcomm will unveil the latest addition to the Snapdragon line at a special event in Las Vegas next week. The Snapdragon 820 is the SoC that’s more than likely going to power most of the flagship smartphones that are released next year so it’ll be exciting to see what Qualcomm has to offer. Hopefully the company will be able to avoid the same issues that plagued the Snapdragon 810, such as overheating.

There’s no mystery that the Snapdragon 810 caused a lot of problems since its release (or even before that), not only for Qualcomm but for several smartphone manufacturers alike. As you are probably well aware of, the SD 810 was plagued by overheating and throttling issues since launch, and while things have “cooled” off in the meantime with the release of revised versions, the US-based chipmaker took quite a hit. Nevertheless, the Snapdragon 810 will eventually become a thing of the past – perhaps sooner than you think – as a fresh report from China suggests that the Snapdragon 820 will be officially unveiled in just a week from now, on August 11. Last month word on the street was that Qualcomm finished its first Snapdragon 820 samples and already sent a few batches to major manufacturers like HTC and Sony, for testing purposes. Of course this didn’t say much about the chipset’s official public unveiling, but today one fresh report from China did. Reportedly, Qualcomm plans to unveil the Snapdragon 820 on August 11 during a press conference in Los Angeles.
