Samsung plans to show off a smart belt and smart ring at CES 2016

Most people are reluctant just to purchase a smartwatch, let alone other kinds of wearable gadgets, but that isn’t stopping Samsung from popping out even more niche wearables with questionable usefulness. To be fair, all of the devices that come from its Creative Lab are supposed to be experimental and innovative, so the fact that the company plans to show off a smart belt and a smart ring at CES 2016 can be forgiven. The company also intends to show off an intelligent watch strap called the TipTalk.

Aching for more smart wearables on you? Samsung has a couple of ideas that might suit your fancy. At CES 2016, which starts next week, Samsung will show three projects from its Creative Lab innovation program: a smart belt that tracks your waist size called WELT, a hand-motion controller called rink and an intelligent watch strap called TipTalk. While that sounds like an odd smorgasbord of unconnected smart thingies, that’s kinda the point of C-Lab, which lets Samsung employees pursue their creative ideas. And while we’ll have a better idea of what these gadgets can do after their official unveiling at CES, Samsung posted some information about each of them. WELT, which apparently looks like a completely ordinary belt, records your waist size, eating habits and number of steps taken, as well as the amount of time you’ve spent sitting down. This data is sent to an app that can then tell you the horrible truth and, hopefully, motivate you to eat better and move more.
