Sony’s Android TVs could be hitting stores as early as February

The first Sony televisions with Android TV on board could start shipping in late February with some major perks for gamers. Sony has already pledged to use Android TV in its entire HD and 4K smart TV lineup, and mass production is rumored to begin in January. Prices will reportedly start at around $700 for a 43-inch television, and range up to $4,000 for high-end 4K sets. That may be on the pricey side, but Sony may compensate with some killer PlayStation features.

One of the big announcements at this year’s annual Google I/O event was that of Android TV. This was in short Google’s attempt at entering your living room entertainment. In even shorter terms, bringing the android experience to your TV. This of course, is not Google’s first attempt at the TV sphere. They had previously tried (and failed) with Google TV, but you can’t keep a good Google down. In spite of the announcement coming all the way back in June, we have barely got to see the platform manifest into reality. In fact, only the Nexus Player has launched offering an Android experience. That said, this will soon change. Reports are coming in that Sony will indeed employ Android TV in their 2015 big screen offerings. What’s more is that they could land as early as February. According to a Sony insider who spilled the beans to Mobile Geeks, it seems Sony are already currently testing of the Sony Android TV’s and that mass production should begin in January.
