The cost of being Batman, 1939 vs 2013

Wouldn’t it be great to be Batman? Rich playboy by day. Gadget-toting crime-fighter by night. It’s the type of lifestyle that many would love to try out if only for a short time.

His daytime job is the key to success. Being a rich playboy means having the tremendous amount of resources required to turn an ordinary vengeance-filled person into a extraordinary vengeance-driven crusader of justice. It has always been that way since the creation of the character nearly 80 years ago, but today’s variation requires much more than a little extra pocket change to make the transformation work.

Here’s a graphic from Mashable that breaks down the difference between Batman when he was born into comic books and today’s variation that has a much higher price tag.

To help with the cost of saving the world, superheroes should take on sponsors

Let’s face it. Not every superhero can live the life of Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark. Some might even contend that if Peter Parker didn’t have to make a living, he could spend more time saving the world rather than doing the bidding of J. Jonah Jameson. Corporate sponsorship actually makes a lot of sense.

Of course, that would probably be the case in the real world if superheroes like Superman weren’t just stuck in fiction. If athletes can get endorsements, who wouldn’t want to pay to have their logo flying around the city or on the front page of the NY Times after a superhero saves the world again? There’s no reason for any superhero to have a day job. They should be able to get an unlimited supply of Chicken McNuggets if they want.

Artist Roberto Vergati Santos took the concept and fleshed it out to demonstrate what these sponsored superheroes might look like if they were endorsing the likes of Nike, Monster, and McDonald’s.

RC Ironman is an ultimate geek toy

Most geeks have had a longing at one point or another for some sort of remote controlled flying toy. We picture ourselves in dogfights with our friends using WWII planes, X-Wing fighters, or whatever other known flying device strikes our fancy. It took some imagination, skill, and creativity to bring the RC Superhero to life, but the results are pretty darn geeky.
