The iPhone 6 may have been delayed due to touch panel issues

There have been some rumors that the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 could be facing some production issues, thus causing it to be delayed and potentially released in December. However according to a recent report from KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, it looks like the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 could be plagued with production problems as well. According to Kuo, it seems that the issue in production is due to the deviceโ€™s in-cell touch panel, along with low-yield casing and chassis problems. For those unfamiliar, in-cell panels is what helped Apple achieve a thinner iPhone 5 as it essentially did away with one extra layer in the touchscreen display.

While the world is eagerly awaiting Appleโ€™s next generation iPhone 6, a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models Apple is expected to release may be pushed back due to production issues. According to Kuo, Appleโ€™s manufacturers are suffering delays related to the devicesโ€™ in-cell touch panel production, and also low-yield casing and chassis problems. Previously Kuo had suggested that production problems could result in the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 being pushed back to early 2015, but this is the first time he has speculated that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 could also suffer delays. He does, however, note that the problems being experienced in the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 are more easily solved than its larger โ€œphabletโ€ sibling, and whatever delays there are are therefore not likely to be as extreme. While he does not name his sources in the report, it is noted that several companies known for partnering with Apple (including Foxconn, Casatek and Catcher Technology) have all seen their stock prices falling recently, perhaps lending weight to the idea that the iPhone 6 is being delayed.
