This Time, The Porn Watches You

Porn is really easy to get, isn’t it? Porn has always been the internet’s biggest business, but most of us would-be consumers are generally asking ‘what business’? Porn is perfectly easy to get for free. That’s just what porn producers are worried about, and they’re rallying to change it. Studio Pink Visual has rallied adult content providers the world over to Arizona for a ‘Content Protection Retreat’ in October, to figure out a plan. “People were willing back then [at the advent of filesharing services] to pay top dollar for porn,” says PV’s president Allison Vivas. “Now it looks like the majority of users think adult content is free.” Ya damn right we do, Allison. The hammer is already being dropped – porn producers in the last month have begun taking aim with lawsuits at folks sharing porn torrents. On September 20th, Larry Flynt Publications sued 635. That’s not much more than a drop in the bucket, but the company has sworn that it’s only the beginning. And get this – they’re being strategic about this, too, picking and choosing which KIND of porn warrants a lawsuit. Round one is aimed at sharers of barely legal and shemale porn. “It seems like it will be quite embarrassing for whichever user ends up in a lawsuit about using a popular shemale title,” says Vivas. “When it comes to private sexual fantasies and fetishes, going public is probably not worth the risk that these torrent and peer-to-peer users are taking.” Very clever. So yeah, guys, word to the wise – be wary in the coming months of what you’re downloading with one hand. Porn’s about to watch back.
