Sony will not allow PlayStation 4 owners to add an external hard drive for extra storage of games. They will, however, allow them to swap out the current hard drive for a bigger one if it meets appropriate standards.
Microsoft won't launch with external hard drive abilities but will add that later. You cannot swap the internal hard drive out, though.
