Samsung devices could feature head tracking in the future

Back in 2013 when Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 with more pomp and substance that we had ever seen, it showed off the new eye-tracking features that its latest smartphone touted. Its possible that the company might build up on that and offer a similar but much more advanced feature on its next generation Galaxy flagship, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5.

Samsung could be planning to follow up the eye-tracking technology it introduced in the Galaxy S4 with new features in the Galaxy S5 that will keep track of the position of your entire head. A newly published European patent application from Samsung details a method for controlling a smartphone through what basically amounts to head tracking with a front-facing camera. And while there’s no indication in the document or from Samsung itself when or where we might first see this tech put in place (many innovations get patented but never become publicly available),intomobile points out that the application was filed in July, not too long after the release of the Galaxy S4, so it could be part of an R&D iteration cycle in preparation for creating a successor.
