100-Year-Old Talking Tree is Most Facebook-Savvy in Belgium (and Quite Possibly, The World)

46239 107541849303026 100001416335569 66624 2615258 nMy parents don’t know jack about the internet. We’re talking nothing more complicated than basic email. We’re talking, like… you know those real long, embarrassing parental messages they tend to leave on Facebook, because they don’t ‘get’ the unwritten laws of social networking? Actually, my mother doesn’t even know what Facebook is for. Bad example. Whatever, you get what I’m talking about. The 50+ crowd aren’t typically the most social-savvy folk.

So it only adds insult to injury that a 100-year-old tree in Belgium is Facebooking with the best of them. The best of them, of course, being you and I.

‘Now, you wait just a minute, Ty!’ you cry. ‘I happen to know that trees do not, in fact, have the ability to speak!’ Well, if you’re gonna be a Cranky Carl and get all pissy and technical, you’re right. But that doesn’t stop this from being the most adorable thing you’ve seen today. Just suspend your disbelief for a moment and dance with me.

Outfitted by EOS with sensors and tech of all manner, the tree is able to gather information about the world around it and subsequently decide how it ‘feels’, interpreting that information into Twitter and Facebook updates, Flickr photos, and even Soundcloud uploads. This tree is straight-up wired.

Alright, so if you were tragically born without an imagination, the marvel of this tree really has little to do with the tree itself, and is all about its garb of tech. But you take your serial buzz killings elsewhere – as far as I’m concerned, this is a talking tree with a Twitter account.

They should do a public toilet next.

Oh, right, there’s also a video.
