Fool Your Friends! Mock Your Enemies! Hide Questionable Content in Plain Sight!

This rocks, so I’m writing this as a service to you, who also rock.

Developed as an artsy-fartsy design thing by Jean-Louis Fréchin & Uros Petrevski, FabLabWall is an iPhone app that basically works in the spirit of those decoder rings your grandparents found in cereal boxes as kids.

You know those scannable bar codes popping up on billboards these days, yeah? Basically, FabLabWall is the same sort of thing, but works in real time: just aim your iPhone at wallpaper designed for use with the app, and hidden embedded text and images are revealed, augmented-reality style. It does not get cooler than that, and if you aren’t down with the FabLab, you do not exist.

So this’ll be all the rage, right? We’ll be able to hide all sorts of silly crap all over our house soon, surely? Sadly, not just yet – for the time being, FabLabWall is still the aforementioned artsy-fartsy design thing. However, if you want to check it out for yourself, it’s currently an exhibit at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and will be until August. So for the cost of a plane ticket, you too can be on the cutting edge betwixt interior design and cryptography.

Ballin’.
