LG is releasing another flagship smartphone later this year

Continuing with its recent trend of releasing two flagship smartphones a year, LG has announced that it has another high-end smartphone in the works that will outmatch the company’s flagship G-series devices in terms of specs. Expected to launch in the second half of the year, which is just a few months after the launch of the LG G4, many are expecting the device to be a phablet that will compete with Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 5 smartphone. 

This isn’t the first time LG has decided to launch two flagships in the same year. In 2013, the vendor announced the Optimus G Pro, a phablet with a 5.5-inch screen designed to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2. LG also introduced the G2 later that year to take on the likes of the Galaxy S4. The manufacturer stuck with a similar model last year, which saw the introduction of the G Pro 2 and the LG G3. It looks like we’re in for much the same in 2015, according to Eason Shao, director of LG Taiwan’s mobile division: “LG will continue its dual-flagship strategy this year with the new G4 and another flagship phone scheduled for release in the second half of 2015, hoping that combined sales of the two devices in Taiwan will increase by 30 percent from last year, Shao said, adding that the hardware specifications for the second phone have not yet been finalized.” LG CEO remarked earlier this year that the second flagship is designed to stand “above the G series,” suggesting the device will likely compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Note line, even offering specs that outmatch the current flagship in the G series, the LG G4. That being said, there is no mention if the upcoming flagship will be made available in global markets.
