Oh, Snap! Droid Incredible Sneaks Peeks at Your Web Adventures

Man, it’s like privacy snafus are the new wardrobe malfunction or something.

Not to be outdone by other privacy stories in the news, it seems the HTC Incredible’s Sense UI has got a nasty trick up its sleeve. As you may or may not be aware, Sense UI periodically takes a snapshot of your web browser. This is of course not uncommon, as almost any internet-browsing… THING takes screenshots for bookmark purposes and whatnot. However, the Incredible seems to have a problem with forgetting, keeping said screenshots for an awfully long time, including through a factory reset. Yikes.

While you can manually delete the files at your leisure, it’s the principle of the thing – you shouldn’t have to. Let’s face it. We all look at… sensitive material online (oh, grow up, I mean, like, financial stuff), and the last thing HTC should want is to become the latest in a long line of companies with privacy woes.

  1. This underscores one of many problems I have with Android phones–every company having its hand in the cookie jar and doing whatever benefits them, not the end user. There’s no one single entity overseeing the final product. The end result is a mish-mash of whatever company X, Y and Z can produce. I like Android. I like the concept, but I don’t want to see it go down the same path that Windows has where it becomes the most popular platform but sort of sucks.
