12 geek movies to see before the 2013 summer blockbusters
Iron Man 3 opens the 2013 summer blockbuster season on May 3rd. This season (as with a few in the past decade) appears to be loaded with geek-favoring titles that should keep the trend of Hollywood success going strong this summer, but one does not have to wait four months to get their geeky fix in at the cinema. Here are 12 movies due out over the next few months to keep us occupied until summer.
Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
January 25
Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton play the grown up variations of the child heroes. They got their taste of witch blood early. Now they’ve taken their skills to a whole new level.
John Dies at the End
January 25
This one looks pretty weird. Then again, when has weird stopped true geeks from giving it a shot. In a world where a new street drug is doing more to people than just making them high, a couple of college dropouts have to do what they can to save the world. Or maybe not.

Warm Bodies
February 1
Zombies and geeks go hand in hand, and while the comedy zombie genre has been well done in recent years with Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead, there’s still room for another winner. What if love can bring zombies back to the world of the living? We’ll find out in this movie.
Side Effects
February 8
It doesn’t look like a typical geek movie, but as crime dramas go, it seems to have just enough strange twists and turns possible to make it worthwhile. Then again, it might be another in a long line of cheesy crime dramas that Hollywood has been putting out recently. This is the iffiest one of the group.

Escape from Planet Earth
February 14
It’s one of the hardest days of the year for many geeks. Valentine’s Day is filled with people having fun with their significant others while many of us settle for anything but a romantic comedy on HBO. Fear not – go animated on Valentine’s Day with a 3D animated geek fest featuring the voices of Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, and James Gandolfini.

Dark Skies
February 22
Forgive the opening when they discuss an “epic game of Modern Warfare” and “save buttons”. It gets better from there. This is an alien/demon abduction movie from the producer of Paranormal Activity may be a sleeper geek hit.
