The legend of the Porsche 911

Porsche 911

The legendary Porsche 911 is rich with history and beloved by passionate automotive enthusiasts throughout the world. The 911, the eventual replacement for the 356 and first  produced in 1963, surpassed its predecessor in sales, longevity, and glory. Believe it or not, the 911 is so intensely cherished by owners that Porsche has not been allowed to replace it, despite trying on a few occasions. To understand the legend of the Porsche 911, consider that the vehicle has been cited in at least 71 movies.

So, what makes the 911 so special? The automobile offers lasting value, top-level engine performance, an iconic design, and exceptional agility. If you purchased the 911 back in 1964, you may have paid $6,500 for it—that same car could net you over $116,000 today. The 911 becomes significantly more valuable over time. The vehicle has also become more powerful over time. A 1965 911 can go zero to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds; a 1985 911 can do it in 5.3 seconds; and a 2012 911 can do so in about 4.0 seconds.

The newest Porsche 911 sports a smaller, more powerful engine, touch screen technology, new transmission, and a redesigned suspension. It boasts the world’s first seven speed manual transmission in a passenger car. Have you driven the newest Porsche 911? How was the experience?
