Twitter is reportedly working on an addition to its service that will show users tweets from other Twitter users near them. The “Nearby” feature will allow Twitter to more accurately target users with advertising specific to their location and interests. Reportedly, the feature has shown up several times on the smartphones of users that allow Twitter to access their location data.

TwitterTWTR +6.63% has an eye on your location — and is testing ways to share it with other nearby users.The short-messaging service appears to be testing a new timeline for its mobile app, called “Nearby.” It shows recent nearby tweets, whether you follow the tweeter or not. The “Nearby” timeline has appeared occasionally in recent days on the phones of users who allow Twitter to see and use their location.
