Why iPhone’s Daylight Savings Problem is Alarming

iPhone Alarm

iPhone Alarm

If you want your alarm to go off at 3:00, you better set it for 2:00 if your alarm happens to be an iPhone and you happen to live in Europe. Daylight Savings Time ended in Europe today and the iPhone updated the time properly, but the alarm is ringing an hour late, still locked to Daylight Savings Time.

The bug was already seen when Australia switched from Daylight Savings Time and Standard Time weeks ago, and therein lies the concern. If Apple has been aware that this would happen and said they would fix it with a software update more than 3 weeks ago, why did it still happen?

What issues with iOS have made what would seem to be a simple fix something that missed a known deadline that left Europeans hanging out to dry?

North America makes the switch on November 7th. With a good portion of the largest iPhone market relying on its alarm, will Apple be able to get the update out in time? Hopefully their alarms are set to get the update out early.
