Foxconn ships over 1 million iPhone 5Ss for China Mobile launch

China Mobile reportedly has more than 1 million iPhones 5S handsets to offer its customers as its preps for the official launch on Friday. Citing information from a “person familiar with the matter,” The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Apple supplier Foxconn shipped 1.4 million phones to China’s largest mobile carrier. Those phones are destined for new buyers and those who have preordered the 5S.

Apple‘s AAPL +1.99% major iPhone assembler Foxconn has shipped about 1.4 million iPhone 5Ss to China Mobile last week, according to a person familiar with the matter, ahead of the mobile giant’s launch this Friday. While the initial shipment volume doesn’t represent the total sales at China Mobile for January, the figure helps to gauge early demand for iPhones from China Mobile, the world’s biggest carrier by subscribers with more than 760 million customers.  China Mobile began taking preorders for iPhones since Dec. 25.
