Jelly Bean close to reaching 60% adoption rate

Google finally updated its Android distribution numbers today, showing that Jelly Bean has jumped up to almost 60% (59.1%) and Kit Kat to 1.4%. We are also seeing decreases in Ice Cream Sandwich (16.9%) and Gingerbread (21.2%) numbers, something the “fragmentation” champions will certainly be fans of.  And that’s pretty much that. We now sit back and watch as Android 4.4 slowly rises and the older versions decline. For the foreseeable future, expect Jelly Bean to remain king.

Google has released the latest figures illustrating the install base for its Android operating system, showing that version 4.1 Jelly Bean now accounts for nearly 60 percent of devices accessing the Google Play Store over the time period measured. That figure is up seven percent from Google’s November figures, demonstrating the rapid adoption of higher-powered Android devices, or at least a lowered incidence of lower-powered devices accessing Google’s app repository. The latest figures also show version 4.4 KitKat at 1.4 percent of the Android base, up slightly from the month previous.
