Apple may be about to hit Google where it really hurts: web searching

Apple and Google may be rivals in the mobile device market but the two were actually somewhat amicable until a couple of years ago. Ever since Apple dropped Google Maps from iOS in favor of its own service, the company has been encroaching on Google’s territory at every opportunity. Now it looks like Apple is going to take things to the next level by hitting Google where it really hurts: web searching.

While Google started out as a search engine before expanding into the tech giant it is today, it looks like differently thinking rival megacorporation Apple might take the opposite approach. A recent job listings suggests Apple is now developing a search engine of its own: Apple Search. “Apple seeks a technical, driven and creative program manager to manage backend operations projects for a search platform supporting hundreds of millions of users,” reads the job description for a Apple Search Engineering Project Manager. “Play a part in revolutionizing how people use their computers and mobile devices.” As far as confirmations of new Apple services go, it doesn’t get more straightforward than that.
