Qualcomm is packing high-end power into midrange chips

High-end mobile chips are almost always the coolest, thanks to the new and interesting features that they tend to have,  and therefore receive the most attention. However, it’s the low-end and midrange hardware that is the most popular in terms of how many are actually shipped which means that, for most people, it’s these chips that are more important. Qualcomm recognizes this and has announced a collection of new midrange chips that will pack some high-end power and features.

Qualcomm Technologies is very serious about its 4G LTE technology. So serious that we want all sorts of users experiencing the goodness of 4G LTE inherent to Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, whether it’s the first-time smartphone adopter or the most sophisticated cutting-edge user. Many high-end, premium goodies that mobile phone users typically see in a premium phone like the Google Nexus 6 or Samsung GALAXY Note 4, enabled by a Snapdragon 800 class processor, are cascading down to the rest of our Snapdragon family. Today, you can see some of that effect. Qualcomm Technologies has announced the Snapdragon 620, 618, 425, and 415 processors, supporting a wide range of mobile devices with high-end features—at a broader range of price points. Smartphone aficionados, operating on compatible networks and with compatible devices, will be able to experience the super-fast speeds of the integrated X8 LTE modem (Category 7 with download speeds of up to 300Mbps and upload speeds of up to 100Mbps) and high-end multimedia features such as dual image signal processors (ISP) (think camera on Snapdragon 800 series powered devices like the HTC One (M8), LG G3, and many others) and FLAC support for high-quality audio.
