NY Times declares ISIS is winning… on social media

In 2015, the land that is the home of Facebook, Twitter, and most other successful social media sites should be the leader when it comes to using social media for world politics, but that title is apparently going to the Islamic State. They are using social media to spread their message, recruit new supporters, and communicate in ways that the United States government simply has not been able to defeat.

An internal State Department assessment paints a dismal picture of the efforts by the Obama administration and its foreign allies to combat the Islamic State’s message machine, portraying a fractured coalition that cannot get its own message straight.
