BlackBerry could be planning a 64-bit octa-core handset for next year

According to rumor, BlackBerry could be planning a 64-bit octa-core handset for next year. Based on their report, the alleged device will be powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8994 chipset which is a octa-core 64-bit chipset with the potential to hit up to 2.5GHz per core with a 4MB L2 cache.

The rumored BlackBerry Ontario, which is apart of the O-series, recently had benchmarks surface. BlackBerry will be utilizing the 2.3GHz Snapdragon MSM8974 quad-core Krait in the Ontario. Additionally, BlackBerry will utilize this same MSM8974 Qualcomm chip in the W-series (QWERTY device) and B-series (All-touch). Even though the future of high-end BlackBerry devices seems strong, it has had us all wanting more. Reaching out to a few sources, we’ve confirmed that BlackBerry has been planning to utilize the Snapdragon MSM8994. This chip uses the 20 nm HKMG process and uses an octa-core 64-bit architecture. Each core can reach a frequency of up to 2.5 GHz with 4MB L2 cache.
