If there’s one thing Ashton Kutcher is good at, it’s investing. Unfortunately for him, that’s simply a hobby of sorts, with his profession being an actor in Hollywood. Should he make the change once his run on Two and a Half Men ends?
We say yes.
At TechCrunch Disrupt today, Kutcher was more than entertaining. He came across smart and savvy, then brought cheers from the audience when he said he flew on Southwest Airlines from Los Angeles to San Francisco. “I feel bad taking a private plane from there to here,” he said. “It’s not very energy efficient.”
While on stage, he revealed that he tried to get some of his startups some airtime on the show. The producers declined to do so without being paid for endorsing them. So much for an inside track.
Kutcher’s list of investments includes AirBNB, Foursquare, and Flipbook – not a bad haul considering that he invested early on in each. He will likely never win an Academy Award, but he can make a direct impact on startups through his creativity and clout. On Twitter, he’s a superstar. On Television, he’s a strong player. On the big screen, he’s mediocre at best.
Ashton, if you read this, please make plenty of money on the show, then get out of Hollywood altogether and focus on tech. It’s your calling.
Why not keep acting work? I think his performance is pretty good, no reason to give it up!
