Reshaping future with Disruptive Technologies
Unconventional designs are making their way into mainstream as we are merging to cramping our big lifestyles into smaller spaces. There are many designs out there that can accommodate us in various arenas within our lives but none that is ordinary quite suit our exotic styles. We love pieces of artwork made to be furniture that is not only helpful but useful and designer Andrea Zittel makes furnishings look like they belong in your home.
Do you want to see the geekiest chair ever? Well, look no further, because the person who brought us the binary low table and other assortments of geeky furniture is now giving us another chair: the Binary Chair 02.
The Binary Chair 02 (or BNR011000110110100001100001011010010111001001-00110010) is a design crafted by Benjamin Rollins Caldwell. It features a massive collection of parts from an old industrial printer and other computer parts:
The seating surface for the Binary Chair 02 is composed of ethernet cables which have been stripped down to the wires and then weaved in a slightly random configuration in order to complement the chair. The wiresare held in place at the sides of the seat by grounding wire clamps.
The Understucture for both the Binary Chair 01 and Binary Chair 02 are made from the same outdated industrial printer which was disassembled and then riveted together and bent to the proper form. The surfaces of the chairs are completely covered with a collage of motherboards, computer chips, lcd screens and hard drive disks held in place by sheet metal screws. The chair also has an interactive quality as the hard drive disks can be spun, the telephone keys and other buttons can be pressed, and the antennae raised and adjusted. The Binary Chair 01 also has a glass panel showing the inside of the chair which can be revealed by removing the back seat cushion.
It’s amazing how all these bits and pieces can come together and form something so unique and inspiring. Now if only we all put in such effort to make use of our old technology. But I’m still holding out for a game console, joystick, and LCD monitor attachment for this chair — then we would be talking!

Hauling around chairs is somewhat of a pain. Carrying them to the beach or to an outdoor event is more annoying than it should be. But the Flux Chair hopes to change all that, and you know what, they might have something amazing here. But the coolest part about this chair is that it is ultra portable, weighs around 10 pounds, and did we mention that it folds? Now it’s available for purchase in the U.S.

I’m not going to claim how this could possibly work, but a fellow by the name Ben Alun-Jones has created a chair that defies both eye and imagination, which your derriere will be sure to enjoy. From a distance there is a blending of materials, which wouldn’t normally catch the eye, but up close, an object appears, revealing something not seen before.
The Affinity chair was simply an attempt to be creative with art and furniture, but it has turned into an art project of the future. The creator explains it far better than I can:
Born out of an attempt at the impossible, the Affinity chair explores our relationship with light and space. When alone, the chair merges into the background becoming almost invisible as it cloaks itself in its environment. However when approached, the chair wakes, becoming transparent, revealing hidden depths and creating an almost infinite space beneath. As the sitter comes closer to the chair, the chair’s heart rate increases reminding us that even though it wants to escape, it is firmly and almost painfully stuck in front of us.
It might not survive a day with me at my computer desk, but I must say I want one, even if it is only to freak out my friends and neighbors.
Transforming home decor has been a hot topic here on Techi. But when you are not busy transforming your carpet or your furniture, what is to be done about the typical workspace? Well, now it is time for the workplace to experience its own metamorphosis.
These concept designs by Natalia Boublik were crafted with one goal: improve the workplace. They also manage to look pretty freaking cool too.
The idea is that a workplace should be easily modified to suit the current needs of its employees. If, for example, you are working, you should be able to have your workspace situated that you can get information fast and have an area to work from. However, if you are wanting to communicate or bounce around ideas with coworkers, your workspace should not get in the way.
This is what this design would enable workers to do. If you are busy, you can lift up the lid on the desk, and it will give you some privacy while allowing you to have a wall to stick ideas too. You could also have a laptop and materials ready to be used. If you want to clean everything up, just close the lid, and all the work goes away. You can see those around you and brainstorm the night away.
It also serves as a quick way to go from messy to clean. It’s perfect!
Overall, we think that is pretty cool.

There are some things that are just too cool not to mention, no matter how weird it might seem. This is that moment, but what is amazing is that it involves carpet. Yes. Carpet. It is that amazing.
Transforming furniture seems to be all the rage lately, so it makes sense that transforming carpet is next on the list, and even though it is hard for us to imagine how this would work in our own homes, it looks amazing and useful.
The concept, seemingly, isn’t all that difficult. You have plenty of carpet in your house, right? It sits on your floor, it provides a nice space to walk on, and it provides some cushion for your butt when you want to sit on it. Simple enough. But why limit it to just those tasks?
Why not make your carpet truly useful? Why not enable it to adapt to your own needs?
If you need a desk, make it. If you need a back support, make it. If you need a tablet to eat from, make it. Whatever you might need, make it.
That is what this carpet wants to enable the owner to do.
It is a truly unique and thoughtful space-saving design that seems genuinely useful.
We just want to have a chance go experience it for ourselves.

Furniture these days is getting, well, boring. It’s the same stuff everywhere — the same look, the same feel, the same basic design rules. Where’s the fun in that? What does that express about you?
Imagine, if you will, furniture that can morph into completely new styles and designs. Imagine being able to change a simple sofa into something far more exotic than you’ve ever seen before.
The Confluences sofa may one day enable all this.
Winner of the “best of the best” Red Dot Design award, the Confluences sofa is a design concept that could one day transform the way in which we think about furniture. This design could empower everyday people to unleash their own creativity and create seating/furniture arrangements that better represent them and the particular occasion.
How it would work, however, is somewhat of a mystery. Still, the idea is amazing!
