Uber is now offering on-demand air conditioner deliveries in NYC

As the weather in New York City starts to heat up and melt away everyone’s memories of winter, many are starting to feel the burn — of not owning an air conditioning unit. But before the heat gets so bad that your clothes start sticking to your body, transportation company Uber has just the “cool” solution for you.  And you won’t even need to leave your apartment. Through a partnership with development company Quirky and GE, the Uber app will give New Yorkers the option to buy a brand new Aros air conditioner for $300 over the next couple of weekends.  Interested buyers just need to type “UberCOOL” in the app’s promotion bar, as well as their credit card information, and the Aros unit will be delivered straight to their door via ice truck.

Which is another way of saying on the hottest days of the summer Uber can make you the most popular person in your friend group If you live in New York City, odds are good that at some point this summer you’ll be fanning yourself in your sweltering, air conditioning-less apartment, wondering how on earth a city that can get so cold can possibly get so hot and hating whoever it was that decided most apartments in the city don’t need air conditioners. Uber, GE and a company called Quirky have asolution for you: air conditioners on demand. For a cool $300, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. during the weekends of May 31, June 7 and June 14, Uber will deliver a Quirky and GE-manufactured Aros smart air conditioner to your door—“Even if you live in a six-floor walk-up,” Uber says, which is nice. The downside is that you’ll be responsible for installing the window unit yourself. But once it’s in, the Aros learns your habits, monitors energy usage, and suggests ways to conserve power. To unlock the feature in Uber just type “UberCOOL” into the promotion bar. Then text all your friends “BYOB” with your address attached, sit back and watch your apartment become the coolest joint in town.
