LG hasn’t given up on Windows Phone just yet

Windows 10 may give us hope that Microsoft’s mobile business isn’t dead yet, but until the new operating system is released, there’s no reason for consumers or manufacturers to adopt Windows Phone. However, that hasn’t stopped LG from re-entering the Windows Phone game, albeit weakly, ahead of the Windows 10 launch. 

After a several year absence, Korea’s LG is getting back in the Windows Phone game. This week it announced plans for the LG Lancet, an entry-level smartphone for Verizon Wireless. It will go on sale later this month for $120. However, LG’s Windows plans are limited to the U.S. for the time being. “Here and now, we’re focusing on the U.S. market with our latest Windows device, but we’re keeping a close eye on other countries and regions for opportunities,” an LG representative told Re/code. LG was among the launch device makers for Windows Phone 7, but pulled out of the business amid tepid demand. “We’ve always taken the position that we were open to doing more Windows phones but we were letting market demand guide us,” the representative said.
