Twitch is delving into the world of music streaming

Mashable

Video games have been the primary focus of Twitch, the insanely popular live streaming service, since the beginning, but now it may be trying something new. Twitch already has technology in place that automatically organizes and mutes copyrighted music during streams, but not its coming out with a way to help streamers replace that music with songs that won’t be muted.

Until now, the streaming service Twitch has focused mainly on gaming. But now, it’s treading onto new territory in a big way with the launch of the Twitch music library and the beta music category. Twitch implemented technology in August 2014 that recognizes and mutes copyrighted music in during streams and videos for its 1.5 million broadcasters. The Music Library, which includes more than 500 songs, is meant to help content creators use licensed music as background for streaming projects, according to the company. Most of the original songs uploaded focused on EDM, but the company said it plans to expand to other genres.
