OnePlus is temporarily dropping the invite system for the 1+1

OnePlus has a radical new holiday sales strategy: They’re letting you actually buy a OnePlus One. Yes, the company’s ditching its wonky invite system as a Christmas treat for anybody that hasn’t been able to land one yet, though the offer comes with the obligatory “while supplies last” disclaimer, suggesting that said wonky invite system will return soon. Not to encourage any impulse buys here, but given that there are probably some of you out there that have been eyeing this phone but haven’t scored an invite, this could be the time to pull the trigger.

Seemingly out of nowhere, OnePlus has decided to give consumers one last opportunity to buy one of the most interesting Android smartphones of the year without an invite. On Wednesday, OnePlus launched the Gift of One promotion, a limited time offer which will allow anyone to pick up a OnePlus One starting at just $299. This is the third time that the One has gone on sale to the public in the past few months as OnePlus has been attempting to atone for a rocky first year on the market. Both of the first two sales were limited to an hour, but this is the first time OnePlus is selling its phone to the public without a time limit. The only caveat on the site indicates that the “offer ends soon.” If you’ve been dying to pick up a OnePlus One, this might be your best chance to do so. OnePlus wants to sell 1 million smartphones by the end of the year — in order to accomplish that, the company is going to have to sell a lot of phones during this holiday promotion.
