Xiaomi’s smartphones may be out of reach for most of here in the West, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use the company’s software. Apparently the latest version of the Chinese company’s custom Android skin has been officially ported to nearly 70 third-party smartphones already, a number that’s expected to grow significantly in the coming months. Known as MIUI (pronounced “Me You I”), this custom Android skin is perfect for people who want a version of Android that looks and feels like iOS but still functions like Android.
Xiaomi is the biggest Chinese smartphone OEM, and the company has showcased a number of new smartphones and various smart gadgets this year. Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is the latest smartphone this China-based company has unveiled, and next to that smartphone, Xiaomi has also announced the new variant of their Android-based skin, MIUI 7. The MIUI 7 includes a number of new features, even though the UI still looks pretty much the same. Xiaomi did, however, introduce a number of fixes under the hood in order to make MIUI 7 a lot faster than its predecessor. The Chinese version of MIUI 7 was unveiled on August 13th, and the global version arrived on August 19th. That being said, Xiaomi has just released news that MIUI 7 Patchrom has been released, and that MIUI 7 has bene ported to over 70 devices. This is quite staggering if you consider that the UI launched approximately 2 weeks ago. MIUI 7 is ported to Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, LG G2, LG G3, Galaxy S5, Xperia Z3, HTC One M8, HTC One X… and a ton of other devices.
