Ford has an innovative solution to reduce car accidents and curb congestion. Feuds between neighbors have been known to get ugly. This one just got stupid. Earlier this week, Vincent Ardolf of Blaine, MN, confessed to hacking into Matthew and Bethan Kostolnik’s wireless Internet connection to send child porn and threats to politicians in their name. His neighbors had accused him in 2008 of kissing their 4-year-old son and called police. While no charges were filed, Ardolf’s animosity stayed. It looks like users will have to be willing to jailbreak their iPhones in order to experience the benefits of the WiFi Application. This really has come at no surprise, as it approaches boundaries that Apple is unwilling to cross. Many apps are rejected everyday but this one really deserves some special mention. The application would work in tandem with a helper app on your Mac and enable iTunes so that your iPhone or iPad could sync wirelessly over the local network. Here’s an odd one. Seems Germany is now fining users who fail to protect their wi-fi networks. Why? Oh, you’re gonna love this. Said a Karlsruhe court, presiding over the matter: “Private users are obligated to check whether their wireless connection is adequately secured to the danger of unauthorized third parties abusing it to commit copyright violation.” In short: if someone jumps onto your wi-fi in Berlin and grabs a few MP3s for gratis, it’s at least partially your fault.
