Yesterday’s Golden Globes were pretty big for Amazon, as the company acquired its first ever award at the ceremony AND beat its competitor Netflix at the same time. The company’s popular dark comedy, Transparent, beat out HBO’s Girls and Silicon Valley as well as Netflix’s Orange is the New Black to take the Globe for best TV comedy or musical.
Amazon had a memorable night at the Golden Globes on Sunday, picking up its first ever awards at the ceremony and beating out Netflix in the process. Transparent won the Globe for best TV comedy or musical, seeing off competition from Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, HBO’s Silicon Valley and Girls, and The CW’s Jane the Virgin. The win means Amazon’s show, a dark comedy that gained a big following soon after launching on Prime Instant Video last year, has become the first ever online series to take a best series award at the Globes. Transparent star Jeffrey Tambor also helped bag a second award for Amazon, winning best actor in a TV comedy or musical.
