Amazon lands exclusivity rights to streaming Orphan Black

By Carl Durrek2 min readGoogle News

It’s no secret that the Clone Club is taking over the world, one Tatiana Maslany at a time, and this news only cements that fact. BBC Worldwide North America announced today that it has secured a deal with Amazon.com, Inc., which will allow the retailer to stream the first season, as well as future seasons, of the popular sci-fi series exclusively on Prime Instant Video.

Amazon has managed to snatch another minor victory in its back-and-forth battle over streaming rights with Netflix. The company has signed a licensing agreement with BBC America that will make Amazon Prime Instant Video the exclusive “online-only subscription home” for Orphan Black. The show’s first season is now available, with the sci-fi series due to return for new episodes on April 19th. Orphan Black follows the story of Sarah Manning, an orphan who discovers she is a human clone “after taking on the identity of a dead woman who looks just like her.” Lead actress Tatiana Maslany has received critical praise for her role in the show, including a Golden Globe nomination.
