Anthropic has announced a big update their AI chatbot Claude can now connect directly to Google Workspace. This means Claude can read and understand your Gmail, check your Google Calendar events, and look into your Google Docs to help you find and organize information easily. This new feature is currently available in beta version for users who are subscribed to Anthropic’s Max, Team, Enterprise, and Pro plans. If an organization uses multiple accounts, the admin will need to enable the feature first before others can use it.

Other chatbots like Gemini (by Google DeepMind) and ChatGPT (by OpenAI) also offer some integration with Google services. But Claude is among the first third-party AIs to provide such a deep connection with Google’s tools.

Smarter Assistance with Stronger Privacy

This update is designed to give users more personalized help without needing to upload files again and again or write long, detailed prompts. According to Anthropic, this integration can make your life easier especially for busy people. For instance, it could help parents by scanning

“emails and calendar events to highlight important commitments, while searching the web for updated school calendars, local community events, and weather forecasts that might affect family plans.”

Also, whenever Claude gives you information from your Google account, it will show in-line citations so you know exactly where that data came from whether it’s a Gmail message or a Calendar event.

Claude cannot send emails or create calendar events itself. Still, this level of access raises some privacy concerns. It’s not clear how much Claude will look into your Google data on its own, or whether you need to tell it exactly which email or document to check.

To clear these doubts, Anthropic stated:

“Claude doesn’t have the ability to access or transfer data between different users’ connected services, as each connection is bound to the specific authentication credentials of that individual user or organization.”

Claude Research Brings Fast and Detailed Web Insights

Along with this update, Anthropic has also launched Claude Research, a tool designed to compete with OpenAI and Google’s research features. It works by running multiple web searches and then generating a well-rounded response in under a minute. Anthropic says this gives users an “optimal tradeoff” between speed and detail. Claude Research doesn’t use a separate AI model, it works using Claude’s recently added web search powers.

Right now, it’s available for Max, Team, and Enterprise users in the United States, Japan, and Brazil, and will soon launch for Pro users too.
