In a recent Google update, the tech company announced that it would upgrade Gmail search by integrating AI. This new feature will help users quickly find an email, considering factors like most-clicked emails, recency, and frequent contacts. This new feature will be available on the web and in the Gmail app for Android and iOS.

G-mail Getting Smarter

Previously, Google used to show searched emails in chronological order. By integrating AI, Google will now enable users to find relevant emails on top of search results, saving their time. The company claimed that.

‘With this update, the emails you’re looking for are far more likely to be at the top of your search results — saving you valuable time and helping you find important information more easily.’

Most Recent or Most Relevant - User’s Choice

Google has launched this new feature while preserving the traditional method of search. The users will be provided with the option to switch between ‘Most Recent’ or ‘Most Relevant’ emails, according to their preference. Google has launched this search feature along the lines of Apple that updated its Apple Mail app in iOS 18, last year. Through this feature, Apple enabled its users to categorize their mails in promotions, transactions, and updates. Apple also preserved the traditional method of email search via the ‘All Mail’ section, where emails were shown in chronological order.

Only for Personal Google Accounts

Google has limited this new search feature to users with personal Google accounts. However, the company plans to expand this AI feature for business users in the future.

Google Expanding Gemini

Since its launch, Google has expanded the integration of Gemini for user assistance. Recently, Google enabled its users to chat with Gemini about their inbox directly within the app. Through Gmail Q&A, users could ask Gemini to show unread messages or summarize emails. This feature was launched initially for Android and later expanded to iOS and business accounts.

Google AI Overview

Two weeks ago, Google also launched Gemini 2.0 for AI Overview in the US. The tech giant expressed that as AI features increased the use of Google Search, reaching more than a billion, new features are integrated in AI Overview to answer more complex questions. As Google is gaming up its search engine with AI integration, likely, Google will also make more advances in Gmail search with AI.
