After a pilot program in the UK revealed that employees could save more than 120 hours annually by utilizing AI in administrative activities, Google stated that Britain might benefit 400 billion pounds ($533 billion) through AI-driven growth if it trained its workforce.
According to reuters, Google stated in an assessment on its pilot program released on Friday that little actions like allowing employees to use AI and providing them with a few hours for education to get them started might help double the acceptance of the new technology and hence enhance economic growth.
According to an analysis by Public First, the scheme’s partner, two-thirds of employees, especially older women from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, had never utilized generative AI at work, according to the U.S. tech firm that created the Gemini AI chatbot.
The AI Works experiments, which were carried out in a small company network, educational trusts, and a union, demonstrated that employees could save an average of 122 hours annually by utilizing AI in administrative chores, according to Debbie Weinstein, head of Google’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa division.
However, other people were hesitant to take a stab at it because they were worried that using AI in their work was unfair and illegal.
She claimed that when they began, they used the technology twice as much and continued to do so for several months after receiving only a short amount of AI training to boost their confidence.
According to Google’s AI Works report, the pilot study participants’ AI adoption gap was reduced as a result of these straightforward measures.
For instance, prior to training, just 17% of the cohorts of women over 55 used AI once a week, and only 9% did it every day. After three months, 29% had developed a daily habit and 56% were using it once a week.
