According to a reliable source, Rockstar Games is preparing to release a Grand Theft Auto 4 current-generation port later this year. The next Grand Theft Auto game was originally scheduled to be released later this year. However, a recent postponement has caused the game to be released in 2026. The renowned 2008 game is reportedly getting a re-release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which suggests that a Grand Theft Auto game may actually be launched this year.
Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in 2013, and since then, fans have been wondering when they might expect to play the next game in the franchise. Rockstar Games was silent for more than 500 days after releasing the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer in 2023.
Although Take-Two Interactive, the studio’s parent company, has repeatedly reaffirmed the Fall 2025 release window throughout the months, fans were disappointed to learn this week that Grand Theft Auto 6 would now be released on May 26, 2026. Fans might still be able to get their hands on a different Grand Theft Auto game later this year, even if there is still one year left.
GTA 4, Max Payne Ports Incoming
As Reddit user Lee Wong Kennedy pointed out, well-known GTA leaker Tez2 claims that Rockstar Games is developing a port for the highly acclaimed GTA 4. The port may release “later this year,” they say. They further claim that in addition to the Max Payne and Max Payne 2 remakes, the studio is developing a port for Max Payne 3.
Be wary of this rumour, as you would any other. Rockstar has not yet disclosed a contemporary port for Max Payne 3 or Grand Theft Auto 4. Until they are formally revealed, we will simply have to wait and see.
Some of the fans who might be upset about GTA 6’s current delay might be satisfied if a GTA 4 port is released this year. Some new characters and a nice look at footage shot on a PS5 were shown in the recently released trailer. The eagerly awaited game will now be released on May 26, 2026.
As with any rumours and claims, we should be cautious of this leak until publishers Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games confirm it.
