New Wristwatch Gives Middle Finger to Laws of Thermodynamics, Your Bank Account

wristwatch

While wristwatches are now a bit of an anachronism (how many people do you know who still wear one?) this one is undeniably cool. Why? Because supposedly, it never stops running.

At the heart of this incredibly sophisticated piece of machinery are new solar cells that work in very small devices and off very little light. Couple that with some very slick lithium-ion batteries, and this little gadget is a marvel that combines age-old know-how with modern tech.

As if all that weren’t enough, parts of the watch’s design are based on ideas from 19th century scientist Léon Foucault, famous for Foucault’s Pendulum, which demonstrated the rotation of the Earth. To top it all off, the mechanics are all visible through the glass window on the front.

The cost? Wait for it – $562,000. Each watch will be made exactly to customer’s specifications. Though let’s be honest: for that price, anything less than the piece arriving in a diamond-encrusted solid gold box will be a bit of a disappointment.
