Tumblr launches its own share button

Microblogging platform Tumblr has finally launched its own ‘Share on Tumblr’ button, following in the footsteps of other popular blogging and social media services. Tumblr’s share buttons will allow users to share content on their Tumblogs as a link, pull quote, photo, or video embed. The buttons are a bit overdue, considering that Tumblr now attracts 26 million visitors per month globally, according to comScore. Despite their tardiness, the multi-faceted ‘Share on Tumblr’ buttons are just as user-friendly as the microblogging platform itself. With the launch of this product, it also seems the company’s recent influx of funds is being put to good use. Tumblr has provided extensive documentation for publishers eager to add these new buttons. The buttons can even be configured to work in PHP, Ruby or JavaScript.

  1. “Share” buttons are a quick, reliable way to get traffic on your service. More power to them (though, honestly most sites don’t need another button to get lost in the shuffle).
