Breaking up is hard to do, but a new startup seeks to make the painful process of divorce a little easier. Wevorce has brought in about $1.7 million dollars, according to a filing from the company. VentureBeat found the filing, which details the company’s fundraising efforts. Wevorce takes much of the divorce process online, particularly the paperwork. Couples work with a “Wevorce Architect,” which is a “single-attorney mediator” that guides the process.
Wevorce, a startup that aims to streamline the divorce process and bring it online, today announced a $1.69 million raise in a public filing. The company hopes to replace the standard two-attorney-fight-for-years divorce process with a scalable network of mediators. The system is reminiscent of LearnVest’s network of affordable financial planners, except we’re talking about divorce. According to the American Phycological Association, “in Western cultures, more than 90 percent of people marry by age 50,” yet “about 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States divorce.” So Wevorce’s potential user-base is rather large. According to the filing [below], Wevorce aims to raise $1.31 million more.
