In the latest development at the intersection of AI and the Automobile industry, Aidan Gomez, the co-founder and CEO of generative AI startup Cohere, has joined the board of Electric Vehicle manufacturing company Rivian. This appointment indicates Rivian’s strong commitment to integrating AI into its automobile innovation. Gomez will remain a part of the Rivian board till 2026. The CEO of Rivian, RJ Scaringe, remarked about Gomez  

 “His thinking and expertise will support Rivian as we integrate new, cutting-edge technologies into our products, services, and manufacturing.”

Aidan Gomez: An Emblem of Excellence in AI

Gomez is an AI expert and data scientist. He debuted his AI entrepreneurship career in 2019 by launching Cohere with co-founders Nick Frosst and Ivan Zhang. The startup focuses on training AI foundation models for enterprises. The company sells its services to Oracle and Notion. 

Previously, Gomez worked as a researcher at Google Brain, the deep learning division at Google. He is also the author of “Attention Is All You Need,” a 2017 technical paper that laid the foundation for many of the most capable generative AI models today.

Rivian Investing in AI

Rivian is already working on a $5.8 billion joint venture in software development with Volkswagen Group.  In this joint venture, Rivian is sharing its electrical architecture expertise with Volkswagen Group and potentially licensing existing intellectual property rights to the joint venture. 

Since 2023, Rivian has also been working on an AI assistant for its vehicles. Gomez seems to be a powerful and fruitful addition to Rivian’s AI mission.
