Fallout 4 will NOT be coming to last-generation consoles

If you’ve held off on getting a next-generation console but are looking forward to playing Fallout 4, then I’m sorry to say that you’re out of luck. Despite rumors earlier this week that Bethesda would be bringing the game to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Bethesda’s global community manager confirmed on NeoGAF that this is not the case, and that the company simply couldn’t achieve everything they wanted to with Fallout 4 while still keeping it on last-generation cosnoles.

Hopes of a last-gen version of the open-world role-playing game were sparked last week when new information was revealed about the long-awaited project. Members of NeoGAF discovered references to the older generation of consoles in the CSS lines of code, suggesting that Fallout 4 could be available on many platforms. The CSS file mentioned Fallout 4 on Xbox One, PS4, PC, as well as Xbox 360 and PS3. However, since Bethesda launched the official Fallout 4 in-game trailer there has been no mention of a release on Xbox 360 or PS3. And for those still holding out hope for a later announcement, Bethesda’s global community manager Matt Grandstaff gave a further update on NeoGAF this weekend. “I apologize, my intention wasn’t to be cryptic. On our game websites, we list the platforms the game at the bottom of the page,” he explained. “It’s also called out in our press release. “We don’t list platforms if we’re not developing the game for them. As another example, you won’t see PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 listed at the bottom of the product page for Wolfenstein: The Old Blood — that game isn’t going to be on those platforms, either.
