Galaxy S5 rumored to come in ‘Prime’ or ‘Standard’ variants

By Scarlett Madison2 min readGoogle News

Samsung won’t surprise anyone by releasing multiple variants of its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. Perhaps it may surprise us by releasing two different versions of said flagship, “Prime” and “Standard” to be precise. This according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who you might recall from a never ending list of Apple related rumors.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has made some amazing calls thanks to his connection with Apple. Last year, he made a prescient call on the TouchID fingerprint scanner for the Apple iPhone 5s. Now, Kuo takes on the Samsung Galaxy S5 in a research note sent out to his clients. According to Kuo, there will be two versions of the phone, one he calls ‘Prime’ and the other he calls ‘Standard’. Both, alas, are made of plastic. One major difference between ‘Prime’ and ‘Standard’ is under the hood. The former will feature a 32-bit octa-core Samsung Exynos 5430, made using a 20nm process. The latter will be powered by a 32-bit quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, produced using the 28nm process or a 32-bit octa-core Samsung Exynos 5422, also manufactured with the 28nm process.
