This advanced version of Google Now announces the real case that brings AI into the usual life of most people, it is ‘leaving human effort in summarizing the emails used in Gmail. This newly improved feature is given to the AI assistant by Google, known as Gemini, which will automatically summarize the mails.

The new, smart, and seamless inbox experience:

It used to be: Accessing summaries of the emails required either clicking a button or going through Gemini’s side panel. But now, Gemini will display your email summary cards atop lengthy email conversations, particularly those with multiple replies, even on your mobile device. Summaries are supposed to be your shortcut to understanding the gist of long messages without scrolling.

Summaries are intended to change as new responses are added to the main thread so as to keep them always relevant and updated. This update will roll out slowly in the next couple of weeks, with the initial recipients being Workspace users in English across Android and iOS.

It is an optional thing, not a must

Importantly, manual options for email summarization are not going away. If Gemini doesn’t create the summary automatically, users can still click on the “Summarize this email” chip or use the side panel feature to create one on demand. This is a part of an update that aims at wider embedding of AI into the productivity suite of Google, thereby making it proactive and intuitive. In addition to Gmail, Gemini will also extend its capabilities across Google Drive and other Workspace apps.

Reliability Continues to Be Tested

The fact that an AI-generated text seems more beautiful and convenient brings doubts as regards its reliability. Other tech giants have also been sent on the path of reproach through similar features like notification summaries in Apple’s AI. Even Google’s AI Overviews in Search have earned a few headlines for missteps in fact. So, while this feature will save time, users will have to double-check summaries for important or sensitive communications.

Our Take

This automatic email summarization by Gemini marks another milestone in AI’s evolving role in daily productivity. It’s a clear step forward in reducing digital overload and helping users stay on top of information faster, especially on mobile devices. However, as with any AI tool, accuracy should never be taken for granted. While this innovation offers real value, we believe Google must continue refining Gemini’s precision to build lasting trust with users. In the fast-moving world of AI, functionality is only as good as its reliability, and that’s where the real challenge lies.
