GTA 6 Unveils Intriguing Details on Protagonist Duo

Two main characters from GTA 6 — Lucia and Jason — stand armed in front of a neon Vice City backdrop with a sports car, symbolizing Rockstar’s latest reveal.

An unexpected second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) was unveiled by Rockstar Games on May 6, 2025, revealing important new details about the game's characters and environment.

Rockstar Games releases a brand-new trailer right after you've accepted that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been postponed till next year. Fans who were anticipating the game's release this fall were shocked when the video game maker said last week that it had been postponed until May 2026. Twelve years have passed since the last Grand Theft Auto game was launched, and the agonizing wait for the most anticipated sequel in history has only gotten worse.

But earlier, the company released a new, three-minute trailer, giving eager players a stack of new information to dissect in the meantime.

Here are some of the highlights.

Key Players Identified

  •  A former military member involved in a criminal conspiracy is Jason Duval.
  • Lucía Caminos: A major turning point for the series, she was the first playable female heroine in Grand Theft Auto's primary plot.

They engage in a variety of illegal acts throughout the game's vast environment, resembling the "Bonnie and Clyde" archetype.

Location: Vice City and Other Places

The majority of the game takes place in Vice City, a bustling, neon-lit metropolis modeled like Miami, in the made-up state of Leonida. This location offers a variety of settings, from busy streets to calm beaches, giving gamers a rich and engaging experience.

Gameplay Improvements

Leaks reveal several gameplay innovations:

  • Dual Wielding: By enabling players to wield two weapons at once, combat dynamics are improved.
  • Advanced NPC AI: The game's universe is enhanced by non-playable NPCs' more realistic actions, such as daily routines and engaging dialogues.
  • Minigames: Including games like 3v3 basketball gives the gameplay more depth and variation.

What's causing GTA 6 to take so long?

Rockstar has a history of postponing its games and a reputation for being meticulous, and the excitement surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 is enormous. It reminded fans that it needed more time to "deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve" when it announced the postponement last week. Jason Schreier, a journalist for Bloomberg, claims that the delay was also made to avoid "crunch," which is the phrase used in the gaming business to describe forced overtime. Certain employees had previously criticized the corporation for the practice, claiming that certain stories were overstated while acknowledging that some employees put in "long hours." Shares of Rockstar's parent firm, Take-Two Interactive, fell 10% at the announcement of GTA 6's postponement.

The industry was counting on the game, which will only be accessible on the Xbox and PlayStation 5 at first, to smash software sales records and increase console sales. But now that GTA 6 has a set release date of May 26, 2026, other publishers can avoid publishing their games at the same time.
